Frankincense and myrrh, two respected
gifts obtained from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia
and the Commiphora, respectively – make wonderful
partners in healing! Both have been used
throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly
Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more assets
deal with issues with many different health
conditions, many that OrthoIllinois Chiropractic knows bother our
McHenry chiropractic patients and/or loved ones who may want to
understand better!
THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh
Chinese medicine values frankincense
and myrrh for their wide-ranging beneficial
health effects. Used in combination, their anti-inflammatory and
analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects stopped
growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh
are parts of an anti-tumor drug for a variety of
cancers with recent research presenting
its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By controlling
pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and affecting
the blood vessels that feed tumors in HCC. Tumor
volume was reduced, and pathological structure was weakend
with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled
urotheilial wound healing to help symptoms of acute interstitial
cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. (3) The
frankincense/myrrh comination proves itself to be a
winning/healing one!
NEUROPATHIC PAIN
OrthoIllinois Chiropractic welcomes combinations of
treatments to help our McHenry chiropractic patients seeking
healing. Chinese medicine treats diabetic neuropathy, a serious
complication of diabetes and cause of kidney disease,
by regulating pathways involved in the
glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation,
anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic
pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described
as having the ability to stimulate blood and dissipate
blood stasis. The combination
was put to the test and found to ease neuropathic
pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to inhibition
of TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). OrthoIllinois Chiropractic
knows all this detail may not be “up your alley” of wanting
to understand as in depth as this, but we want to give you
the whole story if only to highlight how well frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great result!
