McHenry headache. It is a condition from which many people suffer. Cervicogenic and
tension-type headaches are a couple of the more commonly
talked about ones. The cervicogenic headache is associated
with issues with the cervical disc, facets, and joints.
The tension-type headache is related to the
muscles of the neck brought on by stress or peculiar
head positioning. Both headache types are responsive
to gentle, safe stretching type treatment like Cox® Technic used at
OrthoIllinois Chiropractic.
SOURCE OF TENSION-TYPE HEADACHE: Neck Muscle, Stress,
Position
Tension type headache is described as
the second most common health concern globally. A new review of published studies for its care
found that manual joint mobilization techniques, supervised
physical therapy, acupuncture, psychological care, and patient education were
as beneficial for reducing headache frequency, enhancing
quality of life, reducing pain intensity, and decreasing
stress symptoms. (1) OrthoIllinois Chiropractic welcomes McHenry tension-headache
sufferers as well as their fellow cervicogenic headache sufferers.
SOURCE OF HEADACHE: Cervical Joint
McHenry chiropractic patients want to understand
the source of their headache. A recent
study noted how researchers utilized diagnostic
block testing to find the cervical spine joint source of the
headache. Generally, the C2-3 level was the most frequent
source. In patients whose dominant complaint was headache
over neck pain, the C2-3 was the source for 62%, C1-2 for 7%,
and C3-4 for 6%. In patients whose neck pain was worse
than the headache, C2-3 was the source for 42%, lower cervical joints for 18%,
and C3-4 for 7%. (2) Not that every McHenry headache sufferer
must undergo this type of procedure to be helped, but the results were enlightening for healthcare
providers to help diagnose and set up a
treatment plan for headache patients more beneficially.
MANUAL TREATMENT FOR HEADACHE
In a review of published clinical trials, researchers stated
that spinal manipulation was employed often
to manage cervicogenic headache. Spinal manipulation was effective, provided
superior, small, short term benefits for decreasing pain,
headache frequency, and related disability compared with other manual treatment.
(3) One relieving treatment called SNAGs (sustained natural
apophyseal glides) has been described in the medical literature.
In a placebo vs SNAG study, researchers explained how SNAGs
were effective for pain reduction and neck disability drop
and range of motion improvement for women with cervicogenic headache.
(4) Manual therapy approaches like this benefit
headache. OrthoIllinois Chiropractic uses Cox® Technic, a gliding,
doctor-controlled neck treatment for such conditions as McHenry headache
and neck pain.
